Eco-friendly coffee ‘logs’ to burn on fire go on sale at Waitrose

Sustainability has been one of 2019’s biggest buzz words – and the latest way to help save the planet is by burning coffee ‘logs’ instead of wood.

Launching at Waitrose this month Coffee Logs burn 20 per cent hotter and longer than dry wood and emit 80 per cent less carbon.

As the name suggests, each log is made from 25 cups of recycled coffee which is provided by coffee shops, airports, offices, restaurants and factories.

Produced by clean technology company, Bio-bean, the logs have a slight coffee smell which disappears when they are placed on the fire.

Jennifer Lovegrove, Partner and Assistant Buyer at Waitrose & Partners told the Telegraph: "When I heard of Coffee Logs, I instantly thought they would be a hit with our customers and am thrilled we’ll be stocking them from November.

"Reducing waste and finding ways to be kinder to the environment is a priority for our business, so this pioneering product fits perfectly with our plans for recycling and waste reduction."

Coffee Logs are also available at Amazon, Morrisons and Ocado and retail at £8.99 for 16 logs.
