If you are reading the news today you will see that the idea of local restrictions to deal with Covid-19 are back on the agenda.
The government has come under fire for quietly announcing that areas struggling to contain the Indian variant of the disease are now subject to new guidance.
People are being told to avoid travelling in or out of areas like Bolton, Blackburn, Leicester and Bedford - where cases of the variant have been on the rise.
People living in those areas are also being urged not to meet indoors.
But there is anger today that the guidance was added to the government website, but without a formal announcement and with local leaders and health directors completely unaware.
Many of us - especially those in the north - spent large parts of the past year living with local restrictions and there are plenty of people who don't believe that this approach works.

However, there still seems to be a fair amount of support for such measures among ECHO readers.
We have been running a survey over the past week to find out what people believe should be done to deal with new covid threats as the country moves closer to a full reopening.
We asked the question, which new measure would you support to deal with coronavirus if it was deemed necessary?
It may come as a surprise that of the 1,644 responses we received, the largest chunk, 610 votes (37%), went to the idea of further local lockdowns as a measure people would support.
However, the next largest section of people - made up of 468 (28%) of those responding - felt quite differently.
When asked what further measures they would support, this group chose the answer 'None - we need to end restrictions now that so many people have been vaccinated."
There is a strong view among public health officials that the best way to tackle specific outbreaks now is through surge testing and increased vaccinations in those areas.
But only 16% (271) of those answering the ECHO survey saw this as the best measure going forward.
A slightly larger number of respondents - 285 (17%) - said they would back keeping some rules across the country where case rates are rising.
Our survey also asked how confident people are that all coronavirus restrictions will be lifted on June 21.
An overwhelming majority of people (61%) said they are less confident that this will happen, with just 11% stating that they are more confident that all our freedoms will be returned.
Around 28% people sat on the fence - saying that are somewhere between more and less confident.
