ECHO readers react to former McDonald's workers confession about 'broken' ice cream machines

Earlier this week, former McDonald's workers shared the secret behind something all customers have always wondered - why are the ice cream machines seemingly constantly broken?

The insider knowledge was shared on Twitter and caused a huge reaction from fans who have all experienced being denied a McFlurry or milkshake in the past.

On Twitter user @will_doyle said: "Btw, I used to work in McDonalds. The ice cream machine was never broke, it just takes the hours to clean so we used to say it was broke so we didn't have to serve you lot. Cheers x"

Since the tweet was shared just days ago, it has received more than 10,000 retweets and more than 71,000 likes.

Another former worker also shared the same details @MichaelZyzzi said: "As an ex McDonald's employee, the ice cream machine was always working - it just took too long to clean it so we used to tell everyone it was broken hahaha."

On the ECHO's Facebook page, users have been reacting to the news sharing suggestions on how McDonald's can solve the problem.

Neil Thompson said: "Why don't they just have two machines. One to use while one is 'broken' and switch between the two?"

Nathalia Hurt said: "Why don't they just clean them same time every day, like say from 6-9am, when only a few people would be asking for ice cream anyway. Why have it out of order at peak time for dinner!?"

And, Alan Knight said: "Just employ a part time ice cream cleaner!"

McDonald's has taken Twitter to reveal the cleaning process admitting the machines go through a cycle every 24 hours.

Responding to a customer's tweet, it said: "Our shake and soft-serve ice cream machines undergo heat treatment cycles every 24 hours - they're disassembled, sanitized and cleaned every 14 days.

"We're sorry for any inconvenience."

Other reactions to the news included plenty of gifs along with people naming and shaming their local McDonald's restaurants where they've been denied ice cream in the past.
