Echo readers in stitches over realistic scarecrow policewoman slowing down motorists

ECHO readers were left in stitches over the scarily realistic scarecrow which convinced many motorists to slow down their cars.

Dressed up in a high vis-jacket and holding a speed camera, the scarecrow looks so similar to a traffic cop that passing motorists in Sefton are automatically hitting the brakes on catching sight of the figure.

Edie Pope, a parish councillor from Southport, created the scarecrow in response to a string of road traffic incidents caused by people driving carelessly or too fast.

Stuffing pairs of women's tights with straw to make the scarecrow's arms and legs, the 71-year-old later later positioned it on Southport Road in Lydiate with great success.

Many ECHO readers saw the funny side of the idea after they were caught out by the stuffed figure themselves.

Here's what they had to say

Mary Edmondson said: My husband was so stressed all day thinking he had been caught.

"I knew it was a scarecrow as all the rest going into halsall He would not have it so we past a again later on in the day and he realised he was wrong. Drivers can’t take there eyes off the road to much.

"As it a busy part on the bend the church and the farm shop so it’s a quick look she does look so real though . My fave is Clint Eastwood . Lydiate. Are you feeling lucky punk .

Nadine Dawn said: "Stephen Christopher Blundell we seen this the other day, when I was coming from Renacres hospital. You could see all the motorists slowing down. It was hilarious."

Other readers were impressed by the idea which has finally caused motorists to slow down in the area.

Patrick Kavanagh, added: "Cheapest form of speed control right there and it actually works how about that."

April Bollard, added: "Should put these outside or near schools!!"

Sharon Pollard, said: "I want one outside mine"

Jane Carey said: "Geoff Ryan remember us slowing down"

Ian Doyle said: "If you think this is real you need to go see an optician and stop driving."
