Nakhon Pathom's provincial election office has set April 28 for the recount of votes in all 236 polling stations in Constituency 1, along with ballots from nine overseas polling stations.
The Election Commission (EC) yesterday ordered the vote recount in the constituency, saying it was convinced by a complaint and supporting evidence that results of the vote count on March 24 were probably inaccurate.
The office plans to recruit up to 80 teams for the recounting job. It is now looking for a venue for the the April 28 vote recount, said Samat Naksakun, director of the Nakhon Pathom election office.
According to the March 24 election, Lt Col Sinthop Kaeophichit, a candidate of the Democrat Party, won with 35,762 votes, 147 more than first runner-up Sawika Limpasuwanna of the Future Forward Party (FFP) who got 35,615.
Ms Sawika has previously said that after counting votes from every polling unit herself, she insisted she should have won since she picked up more votes than her Democrat rival.
Chumphon provincial election office, meanwhile, said it is ready to hold a rerun of the March 24 election in one polling station in Constituency 2 on April 28 as instructed by the EC.
The EC said the rerun was due to compelling evidence showing the number of voters who turned up to cast their ballots at the 9th polling station in Constituency 2 did not match the number of marked ballots.
Also yesterday, Capt Songklot Chuenchuphon, a soldier-turned activist, petitioned the EC to investigate whether 32 election candidates from six parties should be disqualified for violating Section 98 of the constitution for holding shares in a media company or other businesses.
Among them, 10 are from the Pheu Thai Party and seven from the FFP, he said.
Although some of the companies had already gone out of business, they have not yet formally lodged a request with the authorities to cancel their business registrations, he said.
He called on the EC to check with the Commerce Ministry to see if the candidates still possess their shares.
