AGRA: The Election Commission on Tuesday decided to conduct re-polling at Jaswantpur booth in UP’s Karhal constituency of Mainpuri district on Wednesday following a complaint of "bogus voting and impersonation" filed by Union minister and BJP candidate SP Singh Baghel, who is fighting elections against Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Confirming this, district magistrate, Avinash Krishna Singh, said that the re-polling will be conducted at booth number 266 in Primary school in Jaswantpur in Karhal constituency. "Polling will be conducted from 7 am to 6 pm on February 23," he said.
Baghel alleged booth capturing by SP workers at around 65 polling stations during the third phase of voting in UP on Feb 20. To back his claim, the minister has also released the video of a polling booth —266 in which women voters were purportedly being asked by SP workers to vote as per their instructions.
Baghel has sought re-polling at the booths where voters could not vote freely “due to SP threats”. The letter which was addressed to the returning officer, Karhal, by SP Singh Baghel, stated, “some of voters had complained to me that they were threatened by SP workers saying that police force will not remain deployed here for ever and they will deal with them after March 10 when SP government is formed in the state.”
"Some voters alleged that they were thrashed by SP workers and were not allowed to cast their votes," the letter reads. It further stated that as evidence CCTv footage of polling booths can also be checked as some of the incidents were recorded there.
