Eboue Kouassi nears Celtic exit as forgotten midfielder 'closes in' on Genk switch

Celtic misfit Eboue Kouassi is closing in on a move to Belgian side Genk - according to a report.

The 22-year-old midfielder hasn't played for the Hoops since suffering a serious knee injury in their Betfred Cup semi-final win over Hearts in October 2018.

And HLN claim the Ivorian is already in Belgium to thrash out details and undergo a medical over the weekend before sealing a Parkhead exit.

It's understood any deal for the player is likely to be a loan with an option to buy the former Krasnodar man in the summer.

Kouassi arrived to much fanfare in January 2017 and was former Celtic transfer guru Lee Congerton's first signing at Parkhead.

But the £3m man was limited to fleeting appearances before the horror injury that has curtailed his career.

Brendan Rodgers identified the 6ft 1in midfielder as a player of potential but he has been a peripheral figure during his three years in Glasgow.

Celtic are freshing up their squad this month with wingers Scott Sinclair and Lewis Morgan departing. Out of favour defender Jack Hendry is also closing in on a loan deal to Melbourne City.

Genk have endured a disappointing season with the Belgian big-hitters currently languishing in eighth place in First Division A.

And their boss Hannes Wolf is on the search for fresh faces.

He said: "We are working very hard to recruit new bodies and we could have an addition in the team for the weekend match."
