Eboue Kouassi admits Celtic exit hopes as Hoops misfit fires back at Genk flop claims

Celtic flop Eboue Kouassi is hoping he can still complete a permanent move to Genk despite the coronavirus lockdown.

The 22-year-old joined the Belgian side in January on loan and they have the option to buy him at the end of the campaign, but the Ivorian has an uncertain future with the current lockdown.

Kouassi's time at Celtic was an expensive disaster - he didn't feature for 15 months and was completely frozen out by manager Neil Lennon.

He made just seven league starts since Celtic forked out a chunky £2.8 million fee to sign him three years ago from Krasnodor and he failed to score a single goal.

Kouassi's time in Belgium hasn't been a huge success either - he's made just three starts since his move.

But he's hoping he's done enough to persuade Genk to make the move from Glasgow permanent.

He said: "I have been focused on my loan at Genk and I hope to be able to play for them when this is over.

"I don't want people thinking this hasn't been a successful loan move just because I haven't played too many games. I don't see this as a failure...quite the opposite.

"When I joined Genk, I was not physically ready, but once I got fit, the manager showed he had faith in me and played me as soon as he could.

"If it wasn't for the coronavirus, I would still be in the team.

"So I don't see it as a failed loan - I view it as a success."
