Rehearsals of You Were After Poetry caused a bit of a stir. Photograph: Stephanie Schaerer
At 11am on Easter Sunday I found myself in a back street of a Suffolk town, amid a flurry of activity. There were harassed techies in black, pretty young things with scripts and the people of Halesworth clutching programmes. I was at the HighTide festival of new writing, and about to see some excellent theatre.
The company performed eight plays in a day, half of which were fully staged, and managed to squeeze in a film as well. Earlier in the weekend, they had run debates chaired by Libby Purves and Max Stafford-Clark. It was all rather reminiscent of the Edinburgh fringe - but with more sunshine and birdsong.
