Eat out to help out Edinburgh: Postcode checker will show you local restaurants offering 50% off

Looking to knock a few quid off your bill? You'll be able to benefit from a 50% discount offered by participating restaurants in Edinburgh during August.

The UK Government's new 'Eat Out to Help Out' post- coronavirus scheme goes live next month, and people who eat in at participating restaurants will be able to enjoy 50% off food and non-alcoholic drink up to £10 per head.

And you'll be able to see those restaurants taking part near you simply by entering your postcode.

Not every restaurant is signed up yet, including several in Edinburgh who plan to join the scheme, but you'll be able to check it out in full from August.

So far, 32,000 restaurants, pubs and cafés across the UK have signed up to the discount scheme.

Just a few of the Edinburgh restaurants already signed up include:

  • Social Bite
  • Red Squirrel

It is designed to get people back out, spending money in the hospitality sector following lockdown.

The scheme will give diners get 50% off meals and non-alcoholic drinks, up to £10 a head, in restaurants, cafés and pubs and from August 3 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

You can use the restaurant finder is available on the GOV.uk website.

"To encourage people to safely return to eating out at restaurants, the Government’s new eat out to help out discount scheme will provide a 50% reduction for sit-down meals from Monday to Wednesday every week throughout August 2020," Chancellor Rishi Sunak said.

He added that it will help to protect 1.8million jobs.
