EasyJet to expand routes from Manchester Airport

Easyjet is adding two new routes to Scotland from Manchester Airport to cope with a demand for domestic travel.

From July 9 there will be four weekly flights to both Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

The budget airline has also put on sale 40,000 additional seats on its Manchester to Belfast route, which from next month will run 27 times a week.

It comes as Downing Street today (Thursday) announced that the next review of the current traffic light travel arrangements will take place no later than June 28.

Since the non-essential travel ban was lifted in May, quarantine and coronavirus testing requirements for people returning to the UK from abroad have been based on a green. amber and red system.

Ministers say Brits should only be travelling to green list countries for holidays, while trips to amber list countries should only be made in exceptional circumstances.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK country manager, said: "We know our customers can’t wait to be reunited with friends and family or have more opportunity to explore the UK so these new routes from Manchester should prove popular and will further strengthen our domestic network providing customers with even more choice.

"We also know it is important to our customers to be reunited with loved ones overseas so we continue to urge the UK government to add more countries to the Green list – which can be done safely - to make this possible.”

"We continue to have some of the most flexible policies currently in place so customers can book with confidence and change their plans if they need to, making travel as easy as possible this summer."

Manchester Airport managing director Karen Smart said: "We welcome easyJet’s announcement of these two new routes, in addition to the expansion of the airline’s Belfast service.

"This will enhance the choice on offer for passengers, is great for connectivity between Manchester and the rest of the UK, and in time, will also give travellers in Scotland and Northern Ireland improved access to onward connections from Manchester to hundreds of destinations internationally."
