EasyJet plane seen circling above Liverpool Airport before surprise landing

An easyJet plane was seen circling above Liverpool Airport before making an unscheduled landing.

Eagle-eyed ECHO readers spotted the plane above the Speke airport this morning.

The EZY851 flight landed shortly after 9am today.

The plane had left Gatwick earlier and was heading to the Isle of Man.

But the flight had to make the unscheduled stop at John Lennon Airport with officials confirming bad weather was behind the surprise landing in Liverpool.

A spokeswoman said foggy conditions meant the plane could not land in the Isle of Man.

However after landing at Liverpool the plane re-fuelled and set off again and the ECHO understands it was was due to land in the Isle of Man around noon - some two hours and 15 minutes later than scheduled.

An easyJet spokeswoman said: "easyJet can confirm that flight EZY851 from London Gatwick to the Isle of Man on August 26 diverted to Liverpool as fog and low visibility conditions meant the aircraft was unable to land."

She added: "The aircraft has now departed from Liverpool after refuelling as weather conditions have improved.

"Although this is beyond easyJet's control, we would like to apologise to affected customers and thank them for their understanding. "

What should you do if you miss your flight?

And the easyJet spokesman stressed: "The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is always easyJet's highest priority.”
