EasyJet plane forced to head back to Liverpool with ambulances waiting on ground

Emergency services have rushed to a UK airport this afternoon after an easyJet flight was forced to turn round.

EasyJet has confirmed that flight EZY7023 from Liverpool to Jersey made an emergency return to Liverpool airport.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport have confirmed to the Echo that an easyJet plane made a diversion this afternoon.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said two ambulances were sent to the scene at 1.21pm, along with two other vehicles and three officers.

The flight was on its way to Jersey from Liverpool Airport when it diverted over New Brighton and returned back at the airport.

EasyJet said it was due to a "bird strike".

A spokesperson said: “easyJet flight EZY7023 from Liverpool to Jersey returned from airborne following a bird strike.

"The captain performed a routine landing in accordance with standard operating procedures. We have arranged a replacement aircraft to operate the flight to Jersey.

“While this is outside of easyJet’s control, we apologise for any inconvenience experienced and thank passengers for their patience and understanding.
