EasyJet plane crashes into aircraft at Amsterdam airport

An easyJet plane has crashed with another aircraft at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

The collision took place on the ground this morning, with British passengers reported to be on board.

The easyJet A320 collided with a KLM Boeing 737-800, damaging both planes as the easyJet wing lodged in the KLM aircraft.

KLM Boeing 737-800 was ready to leave for Madrid and the easyJet plane was on its way to London, the Mirror Online reports.

Passengers were believed to be onboard both planes at the time and were evacuated back into the terminal.

One tweeted an image showing the wing of the easyJet plane alongside the KLM while people in high-vis assessed the situation.

Jye Sandiford, from London, tweeted: "Thanks @easyJet. Lost luggage first flight, second flight crashed into parked @KLM plane on @AMS tarmac. Now missing meetings and stuck on plane for 90min."

KLM is still trying to fly the passengers to Madrid with another aircraft.

A spokesperson for easyJet said: "easyJet can confirm that two aircraft made contact during pushback from stand, one of which was EasyJet flight EJU8868 from Amsterdam to London Gatwick.

"Passengers have now disembarked into the terminal where they have been provided with updates and refreshment vouchers. The flight is now due to be operated by a replacement aircraft.

"The safety of its passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority and an investigation has been launched in line with procedure to understand what happened."
