EasyJet passengers stranded without accommodation after cancelled flight

EasyJet passengers were stranded without accommodation after their flight was cancelled.

Passengers on an EasyJet flight from Rhodes to Manchester Airport were left on the Greek island overnight after the budget airline cancelled a flight that was due to depart on Saturday, July 2. EasyJet explained that the lack of accommodation was a result of "limited hotel availability" in Rhodes.

EasyJet has apologised for the difficulty faced by customers - some of whom had to source their own accommodation.

A spokesperson for EasyJet said: “EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY1816 from Rhodes to Manchester on July 2 was overnight delayed and rescheduled to depart for Manchester on Sunday.

“We did all possible to minimise the impact of the disruption for our customers, offering hotel accommodation and meals where required. Unfortunately, due to limited hotel room availability in Rhodes, we were unable to provide rooms for all customers and advised that anyone who sourced their own hotel accommodation will be reimbursed for any reasonable expenses.

“Nonetheless we fully understand the difficulty the overnight delay in Rhodes will have caused our customers and we are very sorry.”

EasyJet has been among the worst-hit airlines for cancellations in recent months. It has axed thousands of flights, including many on the day they were due to depart.

On Monday (July 4), its chief operating officer Peter Bellew resigned amid growing anger over flight disruption. Mr Bellew, who joined easyJet from Ryanair two-and-a-half years ago, resigned to “pursue other business opportunities”, according to the carrier.
