easyJet issues statement after passengers 'met by police' after being disruptive on Belfast to Luton flight

A group of passengers were "met by police" after causing disruption on a plane from Belfast.

Bedfordshire Police met the passengers from the 5.05pm easyJet flight from Belfast to Luton on Sunday after it touched down at Luton Airport.

A passenger on board the plane said that upon landing, the disruptive passengers were not allowed off of the plane by the captain and the rest disembarked from the rear exit while officers waited outside.

easyJet has said that the safety of its passengers and staff are its top priority and that it does not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour. The budget airline says it will always push for a prosecution in such cases.

A spokesperson said: "easyJet can confirm that EZY186 from Belfast to Luton was met by police on arrival due to a group of passengers behaving disruptively onboard.

"Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously, do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard and will always push for prosecution.

"easyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.
"The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is our highest priority.“

A Bedfordshire Police spokesperson has said they were made aware of the disruptive passengers on board the flight from Belfast to Luton.

However no arrests were made.
