easyJet Holidays cancels flights and packages to Italy after change in travel advice

easyJet Holidays has cancelled a number of holidays to Italy after the country was removed from the UK's travel corridors this week.

Brits returning from Italy, Vatican City and San Marino after 4am on Sunday 18th October will be required to quarantine for 14 days, while the FCDO has changed its travel advice warning against all non-essential travel to the destinations.

easyJet Holidays has said it is contacting all passengers due to travel in the coming days up to and including Friday 23rd October .

Affected customers will receive a full refund for their cancelled trip, and the travel giant says it aims to process these within an average of 12 days.

Meanwhile, passengers due to travel between the 24th October and 1st November will be offered the choice between a full refund or credit for a future holiday booking.

For those due to travel beyond the dates mentioned, the company said it will continue to closely monitor the situation and that "holidays will be reviewed in departure date order", with customers typically contacted in the week leading up to their booked holiday.

Matt Callaghan, easyJet holidays Customer Director, said: "It’s our mission to make sure our customers have safe, comfortable and enjoyable holidays, so with this front of mind we will cancel all holidays where the FCDO advises all but essential travel.

"We share how disappointing this news will be that we’ve had to cancel holidays to Italy. But we’ve acted straight away to contact our customers who are immediately affected by today’s announcement to explain their options.

"We’re here to do all we can to give our customers comfort during these uncertain times so we’ve introduced a set of Covid Commitments to ensure safety, flexibility and peace of mind when booking with easyJet holidays. We take pride in always being on our customers side."

Thomas Cook has also removed Italy from its programme and said that it would be refunding affected customers, although it has added Crete holidays to its list after the Greek Island was added to the corridors.

A spokesperson for the online travel agent called the removal of Italy from the list "a real blow for UK holidaymakers, especially with half-term on the horizon".
