EasyJet has grounded its entire fleet of planes as a result of the national lockdown and the travel restrictions imposed by global governments in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The airline said there could be "no certainty" over when flights would resume but that it would "continuously" evaluate the situation based on regulations and demand.
The company is working with union Unite and has agreed to furlough its cabin crew - meaning staff will be paid 80 per cent of their average salary by the government's job retention scheme - from April 1 for two months.
Johan Lundgren, EasyJet chief executive said: "I am extremely proud of the way in which people across EasyJet have given their absolute best at such a challenging time, including so many crew who have volunteered to operate rescue flights to bring our customers home.
"We are working tirelessly to ensure that EasyJet continues to be well positioned to overcome the challenges of coronavirus."
In the last few days, EasyJet has brought more than 45,000 travellers back to the UK on 650 rescue flights - the last of which landed on Sunday (March 29).
The airline said it would continue to work with government bodies to operate extra rescue flights if needed.
The decision to ground the entire fleet will help mitigate the impact of Covid-19 and remove "significant cost", according to EasyJet.
The company added that its balance sheet was "strong" and it had no debt refinancings due until 2022.
"We are in ongoing discussions with liquidity providers who recognise our strength of balance sheet and business model," the statement said.
Shares fell 5.4 per cent in early trading today (Monday, March 30).
