easyJet flight held at Belfast International Airport following security concerns

A flight from London to Belfast International Airport was held on the runway upon arrival by police following security concerns.

Officers attended the airport on Sunday evening after security concerns were raised regarding the easyJet flight from Gatwick Airport.

Upon arrival, the airplane was met by police and other emergency services, with passengers having to remain on board for around two hours as officers boarded the plane.

Police have said that after carrying out their enquiries, no further action was needed.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police officers attended Belfast International Airport on Sunday evening after security concerns were raised in relation to a flight travelling to Belfast from London. The flight landed safely and the aircraft was detained until a number of enquiries were carried out to ensure the safety of all passengers and staff. No further police action was required."

An easyJet spokesperson said: "easyJet can confirm flight EZY839 from London Gatwick to Belfast International Airport yesterday evening was subject to additional security checks on arrival. The safety and security of its passengers and crew is always easyJet's highest priority."
