easyJet flight from Newcastle to Malaga is diverted to Manchester in mid-air emergency

An easyJet flight from Newcastle to Malaga declared a mid-air emergency and was forced to land in Manchester.

Flight EZY6407 took off from Newcastle Airport at 7.06am on Wednesday and was flying over Wales when a passenger was taken ill.

According to flight tracker websites, the plane made a U-turn and headed for Manchester.

A passenger on board told ChronicleLive: "We were told a woman was seriously ill after having a seizure so we had to divert the flight and land in Manchester."

Upon arrival, the plane was met by paramedics who have been giving medical assistance to the woman.

Following a short stay in Manchester, flight EZY6407 has since taken off and continued its journey to Spain with an expected arrival time of 1.19pm.

An easyJet spokesman said: “easyJet can confirm that flight EZY6407 from Newcastle to Malaga diverted to Manchester due to a passenger onboard requiring urgent medical assistance.

“The aircraft will be met by medical services on arrival. Following that the flight has continued onto Malaga. 

“The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority.”
