easyJet flight from Newcastle met by police after passenger caught 'vaping in toilet'

An easyJet flight from Newcastle was met by police on the runway in Palma following an on-board incident.

Officers were called as the EZY6429 flight from Newcastle International Airport landed, and passengers were asked to remain seated.

An eyewitness told ChronicleLive that a woman passenger was caught vaping in the front toilet of the aircraft midway through the flight to Majorca.

It is understood the woman then began using abusive and threatening language when confronted by easyJet staff, who alerted the police to the incident.

Passengers were left bemused at being forced to stay seated as officers boarded the plane and spoke to the woman in question.

An easyJet spokeswoman said: "We can confirm police met flight EZY6429 from Newcastle to Palma de Mallorca on Saturday, September 21, on arrival due to a passenger behaving disruptively.

"easyJet’s ground and cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

"Whilst such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour.

"The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyJet's priority.”
