An easyJet flight from Alicante to Manchester was forced to divert to Gatwick Airport on Sunday morning following a mid-air medical emergency.
Flight U25521 declared an emergency while flying over the south coast of Britain and changed course, landing safely at Gatwick at around 8.30am.
An easyJet spokesperson said: “Flight EZY5521 from Alicante to Manchester today, 25 May, has been required to divert to London Gatwick, due to a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention.
“The passenger was met in London Gatwick by medical services and the flight is planned to continue to Manchester.
“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”
The incident comes just weeks after another easyJet flight — from Tenerife to Liverpool — was forced to land early at a northern Spanish airport on 25 March due to a separate medical emergency.
On that occasion, attempts were made to “revive a 67-year-old passenger who was unconscious”. Passengers were kept overnight at Santiago-Rosalia de Castro Airport in Galicia before flying home the next day.
