EasyJet appoints TUI deputy CEO Johan Lundgren as chief executive

EasyJet has appointed Johan Lundgren as its new chief executive. Mr Lundgren joins the budget airline from TUI, where he was deputy chief executive, easyJet said on Friday

He will replace Carolyn McCall who announced in July that she would leave easyJet to become ITV’s CEO.

Mr Lundgren will take up his new role on 1 December with Ms McCall remaining with the airline until 31 December to assist with the transition, easyJet said in a statement.

John Barton, chairman of easyJet, said: “I and the easyJet Board are delighted to announce Johan as our new CEO.  Johan has proven experience in European travel as CEO and in broader group roles.  He is strategic yet operationally focussed and has proved himself to be a customer-centric, charismatic and successful leader.

Johan Lundgren said: “I have flown with and been a fan of easyJet and its wonderful people for many years.  This is an exciting time to be joining Europe's leading airline. Carolyn has built a fantastic team and with them I look forward to contributing to easyJet's continued success.”

Ms McCall was chief executive at the budget airline for seven years, helping to grow the business into one of the world’s biggest and most competitive low-cost carriers, servicing more than 800 routes across 30 countries. Before that, she was chief executive of Guardian Media Group
