Easyjet announce new Edinburgh Airport flights for people travelling across the UK

As travellers hopes of a foreign holiday abroad this year look unlikely due to coronavirus, Easyjet have announced a new internal route from Edinburgh.

The new connection is between Edinburgh Airport and Bournemouth several days a week, potentially bringing new tourists into the city.

Professor Jason Leith, Scotland's national clinical director, has previously indicated staycations in the UK could be a possibility this summer.

And with restrictions starting to ease across the UK as cases fall, some hope travel restrictions will be lifted in time for a break.

Ali Gayward, easyJet UK country manager, said: “We’re delighted to offer two new domestic services from Bournemouth to Belfast and Edinburgh for the first time and are pleased to provide our customers in the region more choice for those looking for a long-awaited summer break.

“While the summer may be a little while off, we will be working around the clock to ensure we will be ready to ramp up our flights to reconnect friends and family or take them on long-awaited holiday to remember.”

The first flights are scheduled from May 27 on Thursday's and Sunday, with tickets priced from just over £40.

The route is due to last until October.
