Easton stabbing victim approached police officers for help moments after attack

A man approached police officers in the street moments after being stabbed in the back.

The attack unfolded at around 9pm yesterday evening (July 9) in Stapleton Road, Easton .

The victim suffered a single stab wound to his back but managed to approach police officers who were on patrol in the area.

Officers got him to lie in the recovery position and called for paramedics, who were later seen transporting the victim to hospital.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "The incident unfolded at around 9pm and the victim of the stabbing approached officers who were on patrol in a police vehicle in Stapleton Road to ask for help.

"He suffered a single stab wound to his back and was at this stage able to walk, and made his way to the police to seek help.

"Officers got him to lie in the recovery position and treated him, while calling for assistance from paramedics."

The spokesperson added there would be a police presence in Easton for the rest of Tuesday night.

"There will be a police presence on the ground for the rest of the night in the area to ascertain what has happened," they said.

"That will include trying to discover exactly where in the vicinity the man was injured, given he then approached police asking for help who were parked up near the junction of Stapleton Road and Easton Way.

"Forensic teams are on the case, and officers will be in the area making inquiries for much of the night.

"If anyone has any information about what has happened, please do call 101 or approach a police officer in the area."

The police cordon had been removed as of 7.30am today (July 10).
