Easton murder investigation: seventh man arrested in connection with death of Andre Gayle in Bristol

Another arrest has been made by police in connection with the death of a man in Easton on the Bank Holiday Monday - bringing the total number to seven.

A murder investigation has been launched after Andre Gayle suffered multiple stab wounds in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday (August 31).

The 29-year-old, from Bristol, died in hospital after he and another man were stabbed near Easton Community Centre at about 3.15am.

A total of seven men have been arrested in the week following the attack, all of whom are suspected of murder.

In an appeal for information on Sunday, September 6, Avon and Somerset Police said "someone will have seen Andre running for his life".

The force has issued another update today (Monday, September 7), which said: "The Major Crime Investigation Team has arrested a seventh person in connection with the murder of Andre Gayle in Bristol.

"A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody.

"A 29-year-old man, arrested over the weekend, remains in custody.

"Two other men, aged 27 and 22, who were also arrested over the weekend, were recalled to prison."

The statement said that, in relation to the three arrests last week, two men, both aged 27, were recalled to prison, while a 28-year-old man has been released on conditional bail.

The statement continued: "We believe someone will have that vital piece of evidence we need – perhaps in phone footage or photos from the nearby silent disco in Owen Square Park.

"Someone will have seen Andre running for his life.

"Someone will have recognised who was chasing him. Please tell us what you know."

People can call 101 quoting reference number 5220197024 or can supply information or any mobile phone footage through the Major Incident Public Portal here.

As previously reported, around 100 people were believed to be at a gathering at the park when the stabbing took place.

Although the events are not thought to be linked, police believe there must have been someone who saw what happened.

Police activated a dispersal order at the park last weekend to prevent people from gathering there, which could see people arrested if they gather in groups.
