Easton house fire - four taken to hospital as British Red Cross send emergency response team

Four people were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a Bristol home.

Fire and ambulance crews were deployed to Chaplin Road in Easton where parts of the bedroom and roof space were alight.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service sent firefighters from Temple and Bedminster stations, having received the call-out at 12.12pm on Sunday, March 28.

A spokesperson said: "Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels and two 45mm jets to extinguish the fire.

"They also used two triple extension ladders and the turntable ladder, a ceiling hook and small tools to check for hot spots and two positive pressure ventilation fans to clear smoke.

"Ambulance colleagues treated four casualties for smoke inhalation before conveying them to hospital."

The British Red Cross's emergency response team for Avon also sent out two volunteers to assist firefighters, and said it supported eight people with food and clothing at the scene.

The fire service did not state how badly the property was damaged, but said the cause of the fire is thought to be accidental ignition.

Firefighters from Temple and Bedminster were also deployed to the scene outside Bridewell Police Station during the Bristol riots on Sunday, March 21.

Yesterday (Monday) the service's chief fire officer issued a statement commending them for "putting their lives at risk" to hose down burning police vehicles, as bottles were reportedly thrown towards them.
