Easter eggs already spotted on sale in supermarkets - three months early

Easter Eggs are already on sale in supermarkets, despite the holiday itself being more than three months away.

Eagle eyed shoppers up and down the land have been posting pics of the chocolate treats on social media this week, expressing their confusion.

So far Co-op, Morrisons and Tesco have been seen selling them, while Aldi has hot cross buns on the shelves that would struggle to last to April even if frozen.

One person shared an image they'd taken in Tesco, writing: "Just been down to my local @Tesco with my business partner (socially distanced of course), and I’m so surprised to see #Easter Eggs in store. Anything to look forward to next year I suppose! Great effort."

Another added: “Yes folks Happy Easter two days out from Christmas."

A third wrote: "So glad that Morrison’s are selling #Christmas #eggs and Bunnies nothing says Christmas more than an egg merry Easter everyone."

Another wrote on Facebook : “Popped into my Co-op for mince pies on Christmas Eve and came home with a Malteser egg.”

Another asked: “Can’t they even get Christmas out of the way first?”

Supermarkets said that the move was to let some shoppers get ahead of the game.

Speaking to The Sun, a Tesco spokesperson said: "It’s a few weeks until customers are able to choose from our full range of Easter products.

"However, we know some of our customers like to buy their eggs early so we have started selling a small selection in some of our stores.”
