Easter bank holiday 2019: Here are 7 fun family events happening around Dublin

Kids are counting the days until the Easter Holidays - while parents  are wondering how they'll keep them from crawling the walls.

Not to worry, however, we're here to help!

There are plenty of eggcellent, eggcitiing family activities happening around the capital this Easter that will keep the children thoroughly entertained - for a few hours at least.

Here are our pick of the top seven Easter family events in or near our fair city over the coming weeks:

Ultimate egg hunt at Tayto Park

Ireland’s favourite theme park and zoo has laid on some egg-citing activities for the little ones this Easter.

The Ashbourne attraction will host a massive egg hunt on Easter Sunday with Mr Tayto himself, who'll need the whole family to help him break the secret code and find the stash of chocolate eggs

Starting in the zoo, make your way around Tayto Park’s Easter hunt trail solving clues and secret messages until the mystery is solved.

There'll also be Easter-themed arts and crafts and complimentary face painting - alongside all the other amusements, rides and adorable animals.

And if you visit the park in 2019 - you'll get 25% off your second visit - eggcellent!

Cool Planet Easter Workshops

This Easter at Cool Planet, the hunt for renewable energy is on!

Kids will love this Easter workshop in the Powerscourt House, Wicklow venue where their challenge is to design and make their very own solar-powered Bunny-BOT.

Your creative innovators will have great fun seeing how these jittery-jumpy bunnies generate electricity from light - and someone's BOT will win the bunny-dash at the end of the workshop for an Easter treat.
The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series is coming to Dublin for the first time
The 1hr 15 workshops run twice daily from Monday 15th - Friday 26 April inclusive, at 11am and 1pm.

Suitable for children aged between seven and 14.

Tickets cost €20 per child, including all materials - kids bring their bunny-BOT away with them. To book visit coolplanetexperience.org.

Dublin Zoo Easter family event

Dublin Zoo is hosting a range of roaring good Easter-themed activities this bank holiday weekend.

There'll be an eggciting Easter trail, games, face-painting and more at the Phoenix Park venue, along with carnival style games and an Easter bunny on site.

Meanwhile the whole family can enjoy a live DJ throughout the day. Dublin Zoo will be open all Easter weekend including Good Friday and Easter Monday from 9:30am-6pm.

The events will run from 12pm until 4pm on Easter Sunday and Monday.

Rediscover board games in the Ark

Are you a Snakes and Ladders Superstar? A Chess Champion? A Monopoly Master?

Throw the dice and enter a colourful and creative world of board games at The Ark in Temple Bar this Easter.

This free exhibition features some of the most iconic games from the last 500 years from the V&A Museum of Childhood’s collections.

There'll also be workshops commissioned by The Ark where you can design your own board game and pieces.

The free exhibition takes place on the following dates over the Easter Holidays:

Tuesday 16 - Thursday 18 April and Tuesday 23 - Friday 26 April from 10.30am-4.30pm (Closed Easter Sunday).

Explore Dublin with the kids at your own pace using this fun app which will guide you all through the history and culture of our fair city.

Science Magic show at the Mill Theatre Dundrum

Triple award-winning Irish comedian and scientist, Donal Vaughan, brings his hugely popular science, comedy, magic family show back to Dundrum.

Using only things you find around the house, he will perform amazing tricks to show how magical science can be.

Always exciting and sometimes very messy, learn about science and laugh your pants off at the same time. But parents beware - all the tricks can be performed by the kids when they get home.

Shows take place at 12pm and 2pm on Saturday 20 April 2019. Tickets cost €9 and you can book them here.

Mad Hatters Tea Party

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is hosting this quirky, free event in Deerpark, Mount Merrion on Easter Sunday.

As well as an Easter trail with lots of free goodies, the kids can make their own hats and then model them in a special 'hatwalk' fashion show.

There'll also be face painting and of course, the opportunity to meet all your favourite characters from the iconic CS Lewis novel.
