EastEnders fans are excited for the return of Janine Butcher following the soap’s glossy new trailer.
The villainous soap legend was confirmed to be returning to the BBC One soap earlier this year, with actress Charlie Brooks reprising the role after leaving the show back in 2014.
Janine was last seen leaving for Paris after being acquitted of murdering her husband Michael Moon but was disowned by everyone on the Square.
The new trailer comes with the tagline: “Summer may be ending, but everything in Walford is just heating up.”
Narrated by Kim Fox, played by actress Tameka Empson, the trailer focuses on the sense of community on Albert Square as we see numerous residents around Walford going about their professional and social lives.
We see Suki and Kheerat Panesar outside the Minute Mart, Kat Slater and Karen Taylor in the launderette, Mick Carter and Frankie Lewis in the Queen Vic pub, and Sonia Fowler and Rocky Cant in Kathy’s Cafe.
Kim’s voiceover says: “They say when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
“Of course we do. We look out for each other. We stick together. At the end of the day, this community is part of us.
“We’re like one big noisy family. It’s given us our jobs, our mates, and not forgetting the best boozer in the whole world.
“I’m telling you, this Square is where we all belong.”
We then see Isaac Baptiste save Honey Mitchell from being hit down by a flash car driven by none other than Janine Butcher!
“We’re grafters,” concludes Kim. “We’re loyal. We’re family. We’re EastEnders.”
Before ending on a final shot of the busy market street, we see a blonde Janine clad in a bright green jacket as she approaches Number 31 on the Square - the old home of her step-mother Pat Butcher and now home to old nemeses Stacey and Kat Slater.
Janine was their landlord but sold the house in 2019 to the Panesar family.
As the door opens, Janine delivers her trademark smirk.
Naturally, the tease for her return created a lot of excitement online for her comeback.
One person penned on Twitter : “Janine janine janine janine janine im SO F***ING HYPED #EastEnders ”.
A different EastEnders fan commented: “I’m deffo going to have to watch Eastenders if Janine is coming back #EastEnders ”.
Meanwhile, another soap follower penned: “She’s *almost* home guys, almost home. #EastEnders #Janine ”.
Elsewhere, one person tweeted: “I actually got chills seeing Janine back”.
Finally, one EastEnders fan concluded: “Janine giving us that look that tells us she’s up to no good. Exciting times ahead in Walford! #EastEnders ".
Janine will be joined in her return episodes by her daughter Scarlett Moon, her daughter with murdered husband Michael Moon and also Kat’s son Tommy Moon’s half-sister.
