There was once a time when Sharon Mitchell was engaged to Jack Branning but EastEnders fans were shocked that this ever happened.
While Sharon and Phil Mitchell exchanged words on Friday (December 6), she mentioned that she was once betrothed to Jack Branning and it left viewers scratching their heads.
In fact they almost tied the knot in 2013 when on New Year's Day she was asked by both Jack and Phil to marry them, on the same day, leaving her with a decision to make.
Sharon eventually accepted Jack's proposal but they never managed to become husband and wife as Jack jilted her at the altar, just months later.
Jack's ex-wife Ronnie was in prison at the time and he admitted that he could never love Sharon like the way he he loved Ronnie.
Jack then left Walford and by the time he returned, Sharon had moved on with Phil and the engagement to Jack was left in the mist of time, until tonight.
The reference certainly flummoxed viewers, who took to Twitter to share their disbelief.
One viewer shouted in a tweet: "ACK AND SHARON WERE ENGAGED AT ONE POINT???? #EastEnders"
Another was equally confused, asking: "Whaat?? When was Sharon engaged to Jack?? #EastEnders"
A third couldn't recall it: "Sharon engaged to jack..? I can't remember that #EastEnders"
The questions continued with another asking: "When was Sharon engaged to Jack?"
After the history was dragged up, there will no doubt be rafts of EastEnders fans turning to YouTube to find clips of when Sharon was left standing at the altar.
