EastEnders viewers fear Dot is in danger after 'fake' voice message

Viewers at home were concerned about EastEnders icon Dot Branning after last night's episode.

The Walford legend played by June Brown departed for Ireland to help her grandson Charlie Cotton with his new baby but something about her exit troubled some.

The episode saw Dot discover that Martin Fowler (James Bye) was responsible for stealing her savings - despite this being him covering for ex-wife Sonia Fowler ( Natalie Cassidy ).

The final scenes saw Sonia ready to confess the truth to her grandmother but find that Dot had already departed and left an emotional voice message.

Asking Sonia to discover why Martin took the money, Dot signed off: "And I shall miss you and I shall always love you. Goodbye, my dear."

However, the emotional moment that then saw Sonia get upset was regarded with suspicion by EastEnders fans at home.

EastEnders fans are worried about Walford legend Dot Branning (BBC)

One troubled fan wrote on Twitter : "I’d like some answers about Dot and that tape recording which wasn't her voice #EastEnders "

Another viewer tweeted: " #EastEnders That wasn't Dots voice"

Meanwhile, a different EastEnders fan wasn't convinced either: "Who’s that supposed to be on the answerphone? Is that someone doing an impression of Dot? #eastenders "

Another fan concurred: "Wonder if June Brown didn’t record that message for Son on Eastenders? #EE #EastEnders #Dot "

Finally, a different viewer summed up the worry: " #EastEnders Has something happened to June Brown (Dot)?? Definitely wasn't her voice on the tape recorder. Hope she's ok"

No announcement has been made to suggest that June Brown has departed the BBC One soap but rest-assured we shall let you know if we hear differently!

EastEnders continues on Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
