EastEnders vent fury as tonight's episode is cancelled for the rugby

EastEnders fans have vented their fury at there being no Friday night instalment of the soap this week.

The BBC One favourite has lost its Friday night slot on March 26 as the channel instead airs the Live Six Nations Rugby Union game of France v Scotland.

Instead, Thursday night saw a double bill of EastEnders aired to make up for the loss of Friday's episode.

Of course, soap fans are nothing but keen on having their regular soap fix so the lack of a Friday night EastEnders did not go down well.

Taking to Twitter, EastEnders fans shared their annoyance at the rescheduling of the week's episodes.

One person penned: "They should put the rugby on bbc 2 and leave eastenders on bbc1 at its normal time slot".

EastEnders fans will have to wait for more Mick Carter drama (BBC/Kieron McCarron/Jack Barnes)

A different Enders fan noted: "NO EASTENDERS ON MY BIRTHDAY WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE".

Meanwhile, another person tweeted: "Love my double dose of #eastenders but then I'll sure miss it on Friday".

Elsewhere another viewer wrote of the scheduling: "it's all over the place".

Finally, one EastEnders fan concluded on Thursday night: "I’m only watching one episode of #Eastenders tonight I can’t not not have it on a Friday night".

Lacey Turner temporarily bows out next week from her role as Stacey Slater (BBC/Kieron McCarron/Jack Barnes)

Thankfully, we will return to normal scheduling for next weeks dramas from Albert Square and it is quite a week of turmoil on the way.

As actress Lacey Turner heads off on maternity leave, her character Stacey Slater is preparing to head to prison for six months after being framed by love rival Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) for pushing her down the stairs of the E20 nightclub.

However, Stacey is due for a final confrontation with ex-husband Martin Fowler (James Bye) before she goes, and daughter Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) gets scheming in response to her mother's departure. Will Ruby need to watch out?

Will Whitney Dean find happiness with Kush? (BBC/Kieron McCarron/Jack Barnes)

Elsewhere on the Square, Mick Carter ( Danny Dyer ) bonds with recently discovered daughter Frankie Lewis (Rose Ayling-Ellis), Sharon Watts ( Letitia Dean ) pursues a new potential business venture but butts heads with former step-son Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden), and Ben's dad Phil Mitchell ( Steve McFadden ) feels awkward during planning for his son's upcoming nuptials to Callum Highway (Tony Clay).

Finally , unlucky-in-love Whitney Dean ( Shona McGarty ) makes a big gesture to new boyfriend Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami), but how will evil Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) feel about this development?

*EastEnders is back next week and continues on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
