EastEnders to air classic Peggy Mitchell and Pat Butcher showdown episode

EastEnders fans will be treated to some old favourites, as four late Walford residents return for a special episode.

Pat Butcher and Peggy Mitchell, played by actresses Pam St Clement and Barbara Windsor, will clash in the ultimate showdown over Frank Butcher.

Originally airing in October 1998, the love rivals will be shown fighting over Frank - after Peggy suspects him of having an affair with Pat.

Pat was with Roy Evans at the time, and fans may recall two years later Peggy exposes the affair in front of the whole pub.

But two years earlier when the long-standing rivalry kicked off, dramatic scenes saw Peggy warn her away.

Not only that, it was the beginning of one of the soap's most loved and remembered catchphrases ever.

Pat famously shouted: "You b***h," followed by Peggy's response: "You cow."

Each insult was often completed with a slap across the face, and was something revisited in most of their scuffles in Walford.

In the latest old episode to be shown, the ladies are insulting each other over their relationships.

It isn't long before things turn violent, and Peggy swings for Pat leading to a full on fight.

Despite claiming she doesn't want Frank, she tells Peggy she could have him if she chose to - with Peggy insisting the man is hers.

Pat continues to refer to him as "her Frank", before hinting something happened between them.

Deciding to rile her up, Peggy mocks Pat's failed marriage to him and things get explosive.

Roy, Frank, Peggy and Pat have all sadly died on the BBC soap since then.

Of course, Pat and Peggy became close friends before their deaths on the show - an iconic friendship adored by fans.

Their famous row catchphrases are often echoed by fans, with the odd nod to the past on the show too.

EastEnders' classic episodes air Tuesdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
