EastEnders star Shona McGarty called police after being 'bombarded by messages'

Shona McGarty reportedly called the police on a man who she claims 'bombarded her with messages'.

The 29-year-old EastEnders actress has alleged that she had to block the man on social media, after agreeing to do a livestream chat on his TikTok site, to raise money for the Stand Up To Cancer charity appeal.

The Sun has reported that Dan Dempsey had been arrested on Friday and bailed until May after police acted upon the allegations made by Shona, who plays Whitney Dean in the BBC soap.

The actress is currently single after ending her relationship with fiance Ryan Harris in January and was upset with the amount of messages she had received from Dempsey, prompting her to involve the police after blocking him.

Speaking to The Sun, Dempsey said that he was wanting to "know why she'd blocked me" as the reason for sending the messages.

Dempsey, who confirmed to the site that he was arrested on the suspicion of harassment, said that Shona hadn't told him "to stop messaging her" and that he "didn’t know she felt harassed."

The single dad of two from Derby reportedly said that he has to stay away from Shona's home and the EastEnders set as part of his bail conditions.

For Shona, it is a worrying personal development which echoed the extreme harassment her character Whitney had gone through in the soap.

She had joined the soap in 2009 as Bianca Jackson's former stepdaughter and was targeted by evil character Leo, who is the son of Tony King, who also abused Whitney.

The storyline came to a shocking conclusion when Whitney stabbed her stalker to death, after she discovered him hiding in her house.

The Mirror has contacted Shona's rep for comment and has approached the Met Police and Derbyshire Police about the allegations.
