EastEnders star Lorraine Stanley helps elderly neighbour celebrate birthday in isolation

Lorraine Stanley helped her elderly neighbour celebrate his 95th birthday while couped up in self isolation.

The EastEnders star, 43, managed to rally together other residents on her street to come out at the same time to sing to Allen from a safe distance.

Sharing the heartwarming video on Twitter, Lorraine wrote: "So our neighbour,Allen is 95 today,I arranged all of the neighbours at 3.45pm to sing happy birthday to him!!

"You can’t see a lot of the people on the street as we were socially distancing but they were all out with banners #corona #socialdistancing #communityspirit."

The video instantly became a hit, racking up thousands of likes and hundreds of retweets in the space of an hour.

BBC Breakfast shared the video on their account, writing: "Allen had to spend his 95th birthday in isolation. His neighbours decided to sing on his doorstep #BBCBreakfast # Coronavirus @loustar76."

Lorraine was thankful that the video gained a lot of attention, and replied: "Thankyou for sharing!! He so deserves this," alongside three heart emojis.

Lorraine, who plays Karen Taylor in EastEnders, is currently off work as the soap has been shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The BBC halted filming of new episodes in response to the outbreak

A spokesperson explained the amount of episodes broadcast each week will be reduced from four to two in order to keep audiences enjoying the BBC soap for as long as possible.

Episodes will now air on Mondays at 8pm and Tuesdays at 7:30pm only with immediate effect.

The statement read: "In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on EastEnders will be postponed until further notice. The decision was made after the latest government update.

The crisis has affected all of the nation's soap with Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks all shutting down production.

The shows have all cut down the amount of episodes shown each week in a bid to keep the soaps on TV for as long as possible.
