EastEnders' Shona McGarty confirms Mick and Whitney 'romance' amid boat tragedy

EastEnders actress Shona McGarty has confirmed that Mick Carter and Whitney Dean will get closer in the lead up to the boat tragedy, which could see them renew their affair.

The pair first shared an illicit kiss back in 2016 following the deterioration of Whitney's marriage to Mick's son Lee but, since then, have largely kept their hands off one another.

However, with Mick's marriage to Linda falling apart over her alcoholism, the pair will get closer once more.

Spoiler pictures from the upcoming boat party tragedy, in which one unfortunate Walford resident will meet their watery, show the pair getting very cosy once again.

Actress Shona spoke to Mirror TV at the NTAs red carpet earlier this week and teased: "They'll definitely get closer."

Speaking about what it was like to film the boat scenes, she said: "It's been absolutely brilliant. We've just had our 35th anniversary so I think it's a really good time for EastEnders, it's a really great place to work and to even be a part of it.

"It was freezing! But great fun."

Asked whether she would be going in the water, she coyly replied: "I got wet, that's all I can say."

Leo's disturbing obsession with Whitney is set to get even darker as his behaviour spirals even more out of control.

Opening up about what was next for Whitney and Leo, Shona said: "It does get darker. Whitney reaches a dark place in her head and it's going to test her.

Hopefully she's going to get through it but it's certainly gets darker."
