EastEnders' Shirley sobs as she works out Mick's past with Katy is behind spiral

EastEnders' Shirley Carter was close to uncovering what her son Mick was hiding, as he lashed out at her during Thursday's episode.

BBC soap viewers learned earlier this week that Mick was sexually abused when he was 12 years old, while he was in care.

His care worker Katy Lewis, the mother of newcomer Frankie, abused him before fleeing suddenly one day - with it appearing she fell pregnant with his child.

Frankie recently arrived and confessed she believed he was her dad, only to be left mortified over how young he must have been at the time.

She realised it was abuse, but Mick is in denial - while he is spiralling, with his mental health affected.

In the latest episode of the BBC soap, Mick began to take his anger out on his mother Shirley.

She had noticed the other day how weird he was acting about Katy and around Frankie, and on Thursday she confessed she knew something was going on.

Mick appeared to be lashing out at his mum for not being there when he was younger, with fans believing he was blaming her for his ordeal then and now.

She later told his wife Linda that Katy was to blame for his recent behaviour, and that she had noticed him change after Frankie arrived.

Sussing it had something to do with Katy and Mick's time in care, an emotional Shirley suggested she wasn't there for him when she should have been.

While she did seem to clock on Mick was in turmoil over Frankie and Katy, she didn't appear to know entirely what was going on.

She's clearly closer to the truth though, acknowledging Mick is struggling mentally, and that it has something to do with his past.

But will she work out Katy might have done something, or that Frankie is his daughter?

The storyline is set to continue, as Mick's secret impacts his mental health and those around him.

EastEnders airs Mondays at 8.05pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.35pm and Fridays at 8.30pm on BBC On e.
