EastEnders' Sean confesses to killing family member before Jean appears to DIE

EastEnders left viewers with a massive cliffhanger tonight as Jean Slater appeared to DIE.

Gillian Wright's much-loved character started to fade away and closed her eyes as she lost consciousness.

While away in the countryside spending time with son Sean, Jean severely injured her leg while climbing over a fence.

Jean revealed that her chemotherapy treatment would thin her blood and pleaded with Sean not to leave as she began to lose her strength.

Realising he might never get the chance again, Sean confessed that he killed his own dad.

Admitting it wasn't how he wanted to drop the devastating bombshell, Sean said: "Mum, I know this isn’t the best time. I killed him. I killed dad."

Jean said her late husband Brian Slater had died from a brain hemorrhage, but Sean revealed the awful truth.

He said: "Because I hit him, mum. I punched him and then he died. Because of me. It was me."

Sean started to explain his actions but it seemed like Jean had drifted unconscious.

The guilt-ridden Slater lad said: "It would have torn you apart, you and Stacey. I ran. I was 16.

"I couldn’t…then I heard you had…then I thought I had to tell you everything. Tell you I’m sorry, it was my fault. All of it."

Sean repeatedly apologised then told his mum it was "all going to get better" as he walked out of the cottage.

When the door slammed, jean briefly opened her eyes and called out for her son.

"Sean, I love you.," she said before viewers saw a cloes-up of her badly bleeding leg.

Jean's eyes then went shut - but will they ever open again?

EastEnders viewers took to Twitter after watching the heartbreaking scenes.

One viewer said: "Talk about a bombshell! WOW! That episode was incredible, my heart was breaking watching Sean/Jean tonight.."

"Heart breaking scene that she may be dying & still has no bones to hate her son who is confessing he killed dad," added another.

A third said: "I hope Jean hasn't died, and if she hasn't yet, I hope she will survive this illness. She's such a great character."

*EastEnders airs on BBC One on Monday and Fridays at 8pm and Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7.30pm
