EastEnders scene gave away boat crash victim day before death - but fans missed it

EastEnders aired a telling scene the day before Dennis Rickman's death that dropped heavy hints he would be killed off in the boat crash.

Sharon Mitchell's teenage son Denny drowned in devastating scenes, that marked the show's 35th anniversary.

Viewers were divided over which character they believed would be killed off, while many did correctly guess Dennis.

There were several clues hinting at his demise, while it wasn't until the death scene aired that viewers finally had confirmation.

But Dennis' death was actually confirmed if not foreshadowed the episode before his death aired.

Hours before he tragically died, with all of last week's episodes being set across one evening, Stuart Highway gave the biggest clue that Dennis would be the victim.

The scene, which appeared to be in humour, actually told viewers the young character would "never grow up".

Several viewers did pick up on the clue with some suspicious of what it meant, but most didn't make the connection until after the death.

The scene in question involved Stuart and partner Rainie making their way onto the party boat, with him dressed up as Captain Hook.

Of course Hook is the villain from Peter Pan, the story of a young boy who would never grow old.

Stuart said to the captain of the boat, quoting the tale: "You haven’t seen that pesky boy dressed in green have you? Claims to never get old?

"Is that a ticking clock I hear? Captain Hook mate... from the film, mate."

While Stuart was having a bit of harmless fun, EastEnders were clearly giving viewers the biggest clue yet that Dennis would tragically be killed off.

Dennis was wearing a long green coat on the boat, like Peter Pan's green outfit, so the confirmation was there the entire time.

Stuart actor Ricky Champ also confirmed this when fans began tweeting about it, responding to one: "Nice catch Matt!"

Meanwhille, one viewer said after the episode: "After Stuart’s Peter Pan of reference of a boy never growing up, and Denny being in a green coat, I thought it’d be him that died. Really sad and tragic death! RIP Dennis."

Another added: " #Eastenders- did anyone else notice @RickyChamp1's whole 'Peter Pan' speech last week, (relating to Denny wearing the green coat who would never grow up). Very clever."

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
