EastEnders' Rita Simons reveals she has scripts of Roxy being brought back from the dead

EastEnders star Rita Simons has revealed she has scripts of Roxy Mitchell being brought back from the dead written by fans desperate to see her return to the small screen.

In what became one of soap land’s most controversial moments ever, EastEnders favourite Roxy was killed off with Ronnie (Samantha Womack) on her sister’s wedding day six years ago.

The axing of the huge stars meant to devastation for fans, some of whom claim to have stopped watching the BBC show as a result.

But some have taken it upon themselves to send their own scripts to Rita, detailing their ideas on the various ways Roxy could return from the dead.

Rita, 45, has revealed that she still has fans asking if her return is on the cards six years on.

She has discussed the love for her character and told how fans are desperate for her return.

“To this day, I will get – whether it’s tweets, whether it’s someone in the street, whether it’s someone on Instagram, whether it’s a parent of a school – not that I go to school anymore: ‘Why did they kill you? Why did they kill you? I stopped watching. Come back, come back. Come on. If they can do it with [Dallas character] Bobby Ewing, they could do it with you,’” the soap star told Radio Times.

“Yeah, I get it every day. I get scripts sent to me of ideas of how to come back from fans. Fans send me scripts that they’ve written. It has not stopped in six years.”

Sister Ronnie’s body was seen on screen but Roxy’s wasn’t, leading to fans believing the door is open for her to make a comeback.

“If you see some of the scripts I’ve seen, I mean, who knows?” she said, in a comment that will excite EastEnders fans.

She added that she couldn’t say any more than that, but the remarks are likely to come as welcome news to fans.

Rita recently told how having a total radical hysterectomy felt like an “attack on her femininity”.

The soap actress underwent the surgery after years of suffering and said it was “good for her mental health”.

She had debilitating and irregular periods, which worsened her OCD and anxiety, and began speaking to a consultant.

At first, Rita was given hormones, including oestrogen and progesterone – but it ended up making her feel extremely sick.

After trying her options, she was told she needed to have surgery, leaving her heartbroken at the fact she won't be able to have more children.

"The doctor said, ‘The only option is to remove everything'," she recalled the difficult conversation.

"Health comes first. I feel like it’s all been an attack on my femininity but my good mental health is good for my kids, it’s good for [her partner] Ben," she told OK! Magazine.

"They have felt my wrath when I’m premenstrual and they don’t deserve it."

Rita's womb, cervix and both ovaries were removed in the hysterectomy and she has spent the last few days recovering.
