EastEnders moved by BBC as Boris Johnson to address nation with Covid update

The latest episode of EastEnders is set to be delayed on Monday night as Boris Johnson will address the nation with the latest coronavirus update at 8pm.

EastEnders normally airs at 8:05pm on BBC One, with the episode showing the fallout to heartbreaking New Year scenes.

The BBC have tweeted fans to say the upcoming episode will air at 8.30pm instead.

It comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed a new briefing to the nation on Monday night at 8pm.

EastEnders revealed: " #EastEnders will now be on at 8:35pm tonight, following the government briefing."

The government briefing has seen a shake-up across TV channels, with ITV also having to ditch the planned programming.

Taking to Twitter, ITV wrote: "Schedule change Bradley & Barney Walsh: Breaking Dad will now start at 8pm Monday 11th January."

Soap fans were gutted by the EastEnders news, realising it would clash with Coronation Street on at the same time.

One viewer tweeted: "Oh so it cuts over #Corrie that's nice."

Another wrote: "Tell Boris to do his announcement after eastenders!!!"

A third tweeted: "I’m sorry but #eastenders is more important, hope they continue to film during lockdown or I will cry ."
