EastEnders' missing Ian Beale makes contact - and drops bombshell on wife Sharon

EastEnders aired a major surprise on Friday night, in the first of two episodes of the BBC soap.

Ian Beale has been missing for weeks, after wife Sharon tried to kill him - having already made two earlier attempts on his life, with the help of ex Phil Mitchell.

It seems the pair are hoping to reconcile, with Sharon only marrying Ian to try and kill him.

She finally told him that she knew of his involvement in the death of her teen son Dennis last year, in a deadly showdown just weeks ago.

Sharon was poisoning him but when he learned the truth she changed her mind, only for him to eat the poisoned spaghetti anyway.

On learning Sharon did not really love him, and with Phil after him again, Ian disappeared from Walford sparking concern.

He has not been seen or heard from since, until now.

In Friday's episode, Kathy Beale was shocked but relieved to hear he had made contact - sending a solicitor to the Square to drop a bombshell on wife Sharon.

With people finally learning what Sharon did, it was only a matter of time before everything changed.

Ian was a step ahead it seemed though, as he confirmed via a solicitor that he had asked for an annulment to end his brief marriage.

She signed the papers, but that wasn't the only shock - with even Sharon stunned by what happened next.

Ian made her the sole proprietor of The Queen Vic, leaving Kathy shocked after recent events.

Despite the double bombshell from Ian, he was nowhere to be seen with his actual whereabouts not disclosed.

But when will Ian be back, and should Sharon watch out?

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
