EastEnders' Linda Carter to be centre of 'groundbreaking' storyline after Danny Dyer exit

EastEnders' Linda Carter will be involved in a never before done storyline following Danny Dyer's exit.

Mick Carter - played by Dyer - appeared to meet his end when he drowned in the frozen water trying to save his current partner Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) and his ex-wife Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) after a dramatic set of scenes landed them all in the icy depths as they all fought for their lives. Janine made it out, but her fate was sealed the next day when she was arrested.

Linda also saved herself, but Mick died trying to save her, not knowing she was already alright. Now the BBC One soap's boss Chris Clenshaw has teased what storylines are in store for Linda as she tries to repair herself after Mick's 'death'.

He said: "Linda’s still very much at the heart of Albert Square and it’s so great to have Kellie. She’s not going to get over Mick very quickly. She was just reunited with him then he was snatched away from her so it won’t be all smiles straight away.

"There are big plans for Linda. She’s going to start shooting something in January that goes out in February and it’s something that we as a show haven’t done before. Linda’s at the centre of that."

"There is a question mark over the future of The Vic at the moment", he added of the owners of the pub now Mick has met his end in the frozen water, "Kellie knows what’s happening and we know what’s happening with the Vic. It’s very exciting."

Teasing what's coming up for her character, Kellie also added: "I do know a little bit about what’s in store for Linda but I can’t tell anyone! I’ve only just found out myself and I’m excited about it which is really good."

Kellie recently insisted to The Mirror that she has no plans to leave the BBC soap and is excited to see what happens next.

"I don't think I'm done yet," she told the Mirror. "I've always said while I'm happy and I'm enjoying the work - the work matters to me, I'm not someone who just turns up - I'm not that sort of person.

Linda Carter's new storyline will be huge, BBC soap boss Chris Clenshaw has teased (BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron)

"I've honestly had such a good time with it and I'm hoping that will continue and as long as it does I'm really happy to stay there. I really care about the show and when it's good it's really good. It's totally getting its rhythm back and I have complete faith in Chris."

Kellie said Linda has been given a "blank canvas" now Mick and Janine are both gone.

"I'm quite excited about what it might be like for Linda now," she said, "Obviously she's going to be sad for a while because she's there without him but it's like having a blank canvas, this new chapter for her, and I honestly don't know what they've got in store for her."
