EastEnders legend Jessie Wallace cautioned over drunken attack on police officer

EastEnders icon Jessie Wallace has been cautioned following an incident outside a nightclub which allegedly led to a police officer being attacked. The actress was handcuffed after the incident during the early hours of Sunday morning (June 19) in Bury St Edmunds.

A spokesman for the police confirmed that a 50 year-old woman had been cautioned after being held on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and drunk and disorderly conduct outside a club called Verve. A Suffolk Police spokesperson said a woman aged 50 had been "released without charge after receiving a conditional caution".

It has been reported that Wallace, who plays Kat Slater on the BBC soap opera, was heard screaming abuse at police. An onlooker said: "One officer said he would take the cuffs off if she calmed down but when he did, she kicked off again. There was a crowd watching and filming it."

To accept a conditional caution, the suspect must sign a document confirming their admission to the offence with details of what they did. Despite it not being a conviction it is still used as an alternative to a charge and it is also recorded on the Police National Computer.

After three months of the issue date, the caution is marked as spent. However, it can still be used in any future criminal proceedings as evidence of character.

Jessie has played the iconic Kat Slater in the BBC soap on and off for over two decades. However, back in 2020, she was written out of the show for two months due to an "incident while filming".

It was reported that the star was called to a meeting with the EastEnders bosses who then suspended her for two months and told her to "sort herself out" before returning to the show.
