EastEnders' Kacey Ainsworth dashes fans' hopes she'll return to Albert Square

EastEnders' Kacey Ainsworth has left fans disappointed that her potential return to Albert Square will not be any time soon.

Walford fans have been aching to see the return of Little Mo Mitchell since her final scenes way back in 2006.

Since then, Kacey, 51, has gone on to land a number of high-profile acting gigs, including ITV's Grantchester since 2014.

And as the sixth series starts filming, Kacey has confirmed she's been on set.

Some fans have taken this to means a Little Mo return isn't on the cards for the time being.

But Kacey's rep confirmed to Mirror Online that a possible return is "just a rumour."

Sharing a snap from her hair and makeup chair, Kacey was getting her wig put on for another day on set.

"And so it begins..." she teased.

Kacey previously told that she gets asked "a million times" about a possible return for Little Mo.

"It's flattering because she was such a good character," she told the Loose Women panel.

"And I'm still in contact with all my screen sisters," she added, referring to Jessie Wallace and Elaine Lordan who played Kat Slater and Lynne Hobbs.

And she even admitted that it could happen further down the line.

"I'm so busy with Grantchester," she said, "but it's not a definite no. It's never been a definite no."

Kacey went on: "I'll only go back if I can work behind the bar of the Queen Vic and snog Danny Dyer."

And a recent appearance on Lorraine forced viewers to do a double take as Kacey sported a head of blonde hair - a far cry from the brunette locks of her Walford days.

It's not the first time she's been forced to confront rumours about her career - early last year, she had to put to bed whispers that she'd be taking to the floor on Strictly.

"It's a great programme," she said, "but it does shut more doors than it opens and it's crazy, because you wouldn't think that, but it does."

She continued to the Series Linked podcast: "I've had lots of friends who've said doing reality really flatlined their careers."

Meanwhile, EastEnders has returned to the small screen following a hiatus brought on by coronavirus.
