EastEnders' Jean 'to tragically die as she confirms she only has months to live'

Jean Slater tragically confirmed that her cancer had returned - and that she only has months left to live on EastEnders.

She also revealed that she was refusing treatment, and that she was keeping the return of her cancer a secret from the rest of her family.

Viewers watched Jean walk out of the hospital earlier this week prior to receiving her test results, however, so she may either be thinking the worst.

At the end of tonight's episode, Jean addressed her family and friends in a video she made on her phone.

"The cancer's back," Jean said. "I know. I don't need tests and results to tell me. I can feel it. So I'm giving myself the best birthday present ever. I don't want you to get cross, but I've decided to not have treatment this time.

"I know, don't get angry with me! I've thought about it and I can't go through all that all again, I don't want to!

"I know treatment's right for some people but not for me, not this time. So, I'm taking a leaf out of Daniel's book. I'll just knock back the painkillers and take each day as it comes doing what I want to do, my way.

"After all, all we really have is today and I want all of my todays to be beautiful, even if that means having a mug of tea and watching the rain - so be it!

"I don't know where I'll be when you get this, or how I'll be, but now you know. It's not up for discussion. I'm not off my meds, I'm not having an episode. I just want to spend my last few months the way I choose.

"I love you all so very, very, very much. I know you love me, so just let me do this, ok?"

Jean first met Daniel while attending a doctor's appointment following her ovarian cancer diagnosis in 2019.

The pair began to grow close as they had treatment, though Daniel soon discovered that his cancer was terminal.

But she later received a phone call from his neighbour telling her that Daniel had died and Jean later attended his memorial.

However, it was later revealed that Daniel had faked his death because he felt he had become too emotionally involved with Jean and that he didn't want to put her through the pain of watching him die.

He returned two months later and while Jean was initially furious, she discovered that he paid the Slaters' rent in full for a year, stopping them from being evicted.

After spending a bit more time together, Daniel died while they sat on a bench together in the Square, leaving Jean heartbroken.
