EastEnders' James Bye 'almost broke Max Bowden's neck' during Christmas stunts

EastEnders actor James Bye admitted that he almost broke co-star Max Bowden's neck while they were filming this week's explosive Christmas scenes.

The soap star, who plays Martin Fowler, revealed that he and Max (Ben Mitchell) performed their own stunts.

Sharon Mitchell's affair with Keanu Taylor looks set to come to a fiery end as Phil finally discovers the truth.

Over the last few weeks, viewers have seen Phil descend into a dark bid for revenge after discovering that Sharon's baby isn't is.

After threatening to kill himself by turning to booze or killing Sharon's secret baby daddy, so Ben reluctantly agreed to help him to do the latter.

Ben then looks set to get Martin to do his dirty work. Will Keanu come out of Christmas alive?

Speaking about having to do their own stunts, James said: "We did one scene, me and Max,and I nearly broke his neck, didn't I?"

"It wasn't in action, that's why," Max explained. "Not even in rehearsals, just as we were about to go "

James added: "I pulled him up a little prematurely, and he weren't ready and he snapped his neck, and we had a little bit of a fallout didn't we."

"Health and safety is paramount!" EastEnders boss Kate Oates quipped.

The trio then joked that it was a "recast battle", with James saying: "He got all cocky on set like, 'I'm the new Ben, I'm gonna take you down' just to let him know who's been there longer, and who's the better recast..."
