EastEnders' Jake Wood leaves fans flabbergasted with huge beard on Beat The Chasers

EastEnders star Jake Wood left fans stunned as he showed off his huge beard on Beat The Chasers this evening.

The soap star, who exited his 15-year role as Max Branning earlier this year, appeared on the ITV quiz show hoping to win money for his charity, Alzheimer's Research UK.

Instead of playing it safe, he opted to play for £70,000 - but unfortunately didn't manage to beat the Chasers as he became unstuck by one question towards the end.

Yet, while fans were sad that he didn't manage to win the money, they were also distracted by his new look and flocked to Twitter to comment.

One tweeted: "Look at the beard on Jake Wood!"

While another commented: "That’s a bloody good charity, Jake!! I take it all back , your beard looks Luvverly #aconditionclosetomyheart #Alzheimers #BeatTheChasers."

A third wrote: "Max Branning with a beard! You can tell he’s loving being away from EastEnders."

"Max from Eastenders.. what is with that beard bloody hell #beatthechasers," another commented.

In the same episode, comedian Dom Joly managed to bag £50,000 after the Chasers themselves became flustered by a question about Phil Mitchell.

The comedian, 53, had hoped to redeem himself on Beat The Chasers after previously appearing on The Chase against the Shaun Wallace, aka Dark Destroyer in 2012.

Dom had one £10,000 on the cash builder, but had opted to go for the higher offer of £89,000 and unfortunately crashed out of the competition.

Tonight, he got two questions correct out of five and went for the highest offer again of £50,000 against five Chasers.

This time, however, Dom obtained victory after the Chasers became flustered as they were asked who played Phil Mitchell in EastEnders.

Both the Beast and the Vixen appeared to have the answer on the tip of their tongue, but the Beast was only able to remember Steve McFadden's last name, making them struggle for the rest of the questions.

Dom was stunned when he won £50,000 for charity with 30 seconds still on the clock and fans were equally shocked as they flocked to Twitter to comment.

One tweeted: "Absolutely love the Chasers being stumped by a question about Phil Mitchell #BeatTheChasers."

While another commented: "The Chasers mullered there #BeatTheChasers."

A third wrote: "@domjoly absolute scenes on #beatthechasers."

"Mark just had a 'mare, there... #beatthechasers," another commented.

Also taking part in the celebrity special tonight were Loose Women star Brenda Edwards and EastEnders' Jake Wood.
