EastEnders introduces new beer garden as Sharon and Ian try to get Queen Vic back on track

EastEnders has introduced a beer garden outside the Queen Vic so that they are able to shoot scenes externally.

The cast and crew returned to filming last month, but new episodes won't air until the autumn.

The coronavirus pandemic will be used as a background element to storylines, which may see the pub shut during the first few episodes due to lockdown.

However, new aerial hots show the pink parasols and outdoor tables and benches on Albert Square.

This means that the Queen Vic's patrons will be able to enjoy a pint by socially distancing outside, just across the street from the main entrance of the pub.

The beer garden is another new touch to the brand new £87million set, which also includes a mural as the Square is updated to reflect modern Britain.

British-born Ghanaian artist Dreph created the piece which has been painted on the brick wall of the Beales' house on Albert Square.

Nottingham-born Dreph, whose real name is Neequaye Dsane, often paints tributes to unsung heroes and heroines.

It will be a testing time for Sharon Mitchell and Ian Beale, who were announced as the Queen Vic owners in the final episode before the BBC soap went off air for the first time in 35 years.

Both business owners will be struggle as they feel the financial impact of lockdown on their businesses - particularly Ian, who is a restaurateur and takeaway shop owner.

The last time the pub was shut was in 2010, when it was closed for refurbishment because Phil burnt it down while on crack cocaine.

With a beer garden introduced, Sharon and Ian will likely be frantically trying to make their money back after investing so much into the pub...
